Being from the medical field, and a hospital, specifically, we have implemented a BYOD program. I totally agree that one of the biggest challenges to BYOD implementation is getting the employees to understand the security goals and be a part of the program.

I work in hospital admin, and we rolled out Tigertext to all our doctors so they could send patient info and still be HIPAA compliant so the hospital wouldn't get sued.

We had to bring each doctor in to show them how to install the app, and use it. It is very simple and easy to use, but the real challenge was that each doctor had all these reasons why they didn't want to use it, or use it correctly.

The way we got them to really understand it, is our lawyer reviewed with them a case of a doctor getting sued for losing his phone, and the patient info stored in the text messages was released publicly (it was about a celebrity).

Make sure you reserve time to educating people as to why they need to follow the security procedure for BYOD, whatever it may be.

I think it's ridiculous to blame a driver's actions on the company he works for. Drivers must be held accountable. The lawyer sounds like he just wanted to win a ton of money. Safety, care and concern are secondary to that. It's impossible to make enough laws to protect us from ourselves. We don't need each company to change their policies to address every driving concern. We need workers who care about others and realize their actions have lasting consequences.

As with all things, honesty is the best policy. If you've been convicted (or even charged), you may need to divulge information about a DUI. While the example of the commercial driver is used herein, DUI convictions are not all that relevant to most jobs and are so commonplace (so long as remote in time) that they will not likely pose a bar to employment, assuming you are a great candidate in all the ways that actually matters. Feel free to explain it and provide the human element, because all employers have made mistakes themselves and will be less quick to judge you if you explain that you learned from that mistake and are a more responsible person for it.

Mr. Nelson,

Bravo to you and your plight... We need millions more pump top PSAs promoting no texting and driving, to stay "FRESH" in driver's minds and ultimately save lives.

To the matter I am writing you about... your PSAs: I recently joined a network of business owners on a website called Help A Church, which brings Businesses, Customers, and Churches together.

I would love my PSA to air on Fresh TV looking for additional businesses that want a unique way to advertise their business on a consistent basis for a minimal fee.

Not sure if this qualifies as a PSA that could be used on your public access program, but I am curious if I put submitted a flyer of how I wanted the PSA to read, then I could have a go at it??

Please advise, as I look forward to hearing from you,

Sincerely,

Kim Allen

I agree that it makes sense for professional driving people in fleet applications where 50% or more of their time is spent behind the wheel. I think this is going way overboard to blame the company if someone is 'driving your own car for work' as a minor part of their job and using a hands free device. Saying that a company is responsible just because they are reimbrusing for milage is over reacting and going too far.

Good comments on open or closed platform. My question is how open is enough?

I am a doctorate study and doing my online survey about the benefits of open platform over closed platform in the consumer technology industry. My study asks for people's opinions' on whether open parts architecture is better than open source architecture, which might answer part of the question of how open is the best. You mentioned here that it is impossible for closed platform to dominate in the industry, and I agree badly but how open matters you as a value added service developer/ provider?

I am surveying worldwide professionals from infrastructure, chipset, consumer device maker, application/internet developer, and carriers/channels to ask their subjective opinions of the benefits of open platform over closed platform. I would like to ask you (and/or people from your company) to participate in this study on open innovation, which is a study of the benefits of how open platform might bring to ecosystem players on opening up business model innovation with its complementary partners in the consumer technology industry that includes the computer hardware, wireless, telecommunication hardware, consumer electronic, internet, and software industries. The study takes about 10 minutes or so of your time.

To volunteer to participate in the study, please CLICK on the link BELOW (maybe copy and paste) for the online location of the survey. I will be more than happy to share my findings after the data are collected and analyzed.

Thanks very much for participating in this study, if you could!
